In the same way that you wouldn't run a marathon without training for it, don't keep your dog outside for hours on end without working up to it. You love and care about your dog, right? Don't put him or her out in the cold like that without building endurance.
In some areas, the season changes quickly. It feels like it went from summer to winter! Your dog was panting outside and all of a sudden she's beginning to shiver.
You need to start with short sessions outside at first. After a handful of days go by, gradually add more and more time to the outdoor session. After awhile, your dog will feel more comfortable outdoors in the colder weather.
Stepping on rock salt may hurt your pooch's paws! Not only that, if they eat it, it can disrupt their digestion and hurt their intestines.
Check around for antifreeze as well, as that is a toxic, fatal substance. People often use antifreeze on their driveways, so be weary of sidewalks and curbs where cars are parked.
Again, antifreeze is a highly poisonous substance that will kill your pet. Be careful!
Your dog's haircut may look different, depending on the season. Often times, groomers will cut a lot of the coat so the dog can feel the breeze during the warm weather.
However, your dog relies on their winter coat during the colder months. Don't chop off the fur that keeps them warm. In addition, if your dog is shivering, you can buy them a coat or sweater.
There are plenty of warm and stylish coats on the market, designed for all different types of dogs. When their abdomen and neck is covered, they'll be much happier playing in the snow.
Avoid playing on frozen lakes, rivers, or bodies of water. You never know if it could crack. Even though your dog may be small and lightweight, accidents happen all of the time. Your dog could drown or get hypothermia. If you walk your dog near a lake in the summer, you may want to change up your route during the winter.
After bathing your dog, you need to towel them off and possibly even blow dry them. This is an easy way to warm up your pet quickly. Even if they're dry, if they seem cold and shivery, blow-dry them.
They may be scared at first, but after some time and patience, your dog will get used to the sound of the hair-dryer. Keeping your dog dry during freezing temperatures is a must.
--------------
Thank you for reading my blog post on winter safety tips for your dog. Seeing your dog play in the snow is a magical moment. Still, some days it's the temperature drops and it's not safe for your dog to be outdoors.
Please try to remember to slowly build their endurance, keep them dry, grow out their winter coats, and avoid toxins. If you've read this far, you deeply care about your pet's safety.
You're a great dog owner! Give your dog a pat for me.

Many people associate sunburns with hot weather. Images of beaches, bathing suits, and the scorching sun overhead come to mind. Even if you're not going sunbathing in Florida, you can still get sunburnt!
In fact, skiing sunburns are common. The sun's rays reflect off of the white snow and burn your face. I'm sure I don't need to remind you that sunburns can become extremely painful. Not only that, they can cause certain types of skin cancer.
Perhaps it's not as instinctual to reach the for the sunscreen when packing your suitcase for you upcoming skiing expedition, but you'll be sorry if you forget it. Jot down a little reminder to pack sunscreen right now!
Having bare skin on a skiing trip is a big no-no. The wind will nip at the exposed skin until you're wishing you're at home by the fire instead of battling the elements on the slopes.
With the proper clothing, you'll have way more fun on your skiing trip! You did come to have fun, right? It's difficult to enjoy yourself when you're freezing out there!
Heated apparel can solve this issue. Bundling up in layers may be okay for a brisk walk in the snow, but you don't want your gear to weigh you down. Yet, you still want to be warm.
This is where heated clothing enters the scene. It's made to keep you warm and nimble on the slopes. We're lucky to be living in a generation where technology can help us out like this.
Putting a little bit of wax on your skis will help you glide a bit more easily down the slopes! Whether you're competing or you're out for fun, sometimes you need a little bit of edge. That's when the real magic happens....improvement, growth, and joy.
If the snow on the mountains is old or warm, you should get a softer wax lubricant. Do a bit of research about the right type of ski wax for your destination. The temperature and type of snow will play a large role in your purchasing choice. It's easy to find and put it on all by yourself.
If you need some assistance, the employees or shop owners will be happy to give you more explicit directions. Remember, the base of your skis need to be care for properly. Don't forget your ski wax!
--------------
I want you to have an amazing and unforgettable getaway on the slopes! When you're packing, you may recall my blog post and remember your sunscreen, heated apparel, and ski wax.
It's better to be prepared than to kick yourself later on. You deserve to have a stress-free skiing expedition.
Take a lot of pictures, stay hydrated, and don't forget to have some fun! Thanks for reading my post.

Although some parts of the country are starting to warm up, we can't deny that it's still pretty damn cold.
With cold temperatures come a flurry of home maintenance duties, but nothing is more important than your roof.
Think about it; it doesn't make sense to do some interior painting if the leak in your roof is going to mess it up anyways.
These 3 common roof problems may be an inconvenience, but will save you a migraine later if taken care of now.
In case you don't know, an ice dam is when your gutter is clogged, so the water has nowhere to go. If the temperatures are below freezing, the water turns into ice. Since the ice has nowhere to go and gravity is working against it, the water & ice has nowhere to go except behind the shingles and into your living room.
If there's no snow left on your roof at the moment, take an hour and jump up there to clean your gutters.
If there is snow, or you're afraid of heights, call a professional. The amount you'll cough up now is nothing compared to replacing the whole bottom row of shingles & plywood in springtime.
Flashing on your roof are metal pieces that cover joints. For example, when if one roof is taller than the other, flashing goes where the roofs meet.
It's really easy for roofers to mess this up, so if you're having a leak and can't find out where it is, that's most likely the case.
This is definitely a time to call in the professionals. Someone who doesn't know what they're doing can go tapping around and make things worse than they already are.
Condensation happens when warm air meets a cold surface. You attic is a prime location for this to happen.
Seeing as most homes use plywood as a base layer for the shingles, this is a really bad combination.
Condensation on wood = rotting wood = very expensive roof replacement/repair.
Take a few minutes to inspect your attic to check for condensation. If it's there, again, it's time to call in a professional. You can get a jump on it by ventilating your attic. If the professional you call in suggests ridge vent, get it.
---------
I know, I know, home maintenance is annoying and time consuming.
But you signed up for it when you signed that mortgage!
Take the time to check your home for these problems and save yourself time & money down the road. You'll thank me later.

Some of us here in the United States count down the days until Spring, grit our teeth, and endure the winter months (particularly those of us in the North East region.)
Take a second to reflect on our fellows up in the Nordic countries. They experience long and dark winters, often not seeing much more than a small glimmer of sunlight for weeks at a time.
Yet, they don't simply endure the winter months- they enjoy them! In today's blog post, I'm going to do my best to translate a few of the words that mean winter coziness up in Scandinavia.
"Hygge," is a Danish word that describes the cozy and warm feeling you get during the winter months. Think of curling up with a book and a cup of cocoa by the fireplace next to your dog and your siblings.
It captures love, comfort, joy, and well-being. Hygge is part of Danish culture. It's also about close familial bonds and togetherness. Have you ever snuggled up next to someone you love and it warmed your heart? If so, you've experienced hygge!
I am picturing snuggling in my bed with warm, soft blankets. Denmark is one of the happiest, if not the happiest country in the world. They're thriving despite the dark days and chilly winds. Perhaps it has something to do with hygge?
This is a Norwegian word, similar to Hygge. In Norway, smiles are abundant in the winter season. From the skiing slopes, gorgeous mountains, to the restaurants and cafés, you'll be able to see everyone getting the most out of winter.
Like hygge, this word evokes a sense of snuggly coziness and warmth. In the same way that candles light up a room, your heart can light up when you see someone you love.
Think intimate connections, fire or candles illuminating the dimly lit restaurants, and comfort. Norway is definitely has a positive attitude when it comes to the winter season.
Hey, wait a second- Scandinavia doesn't have exclusive rights to all things cozy! The Scots have something to say about winter comfort.
Scotland isn't exactly warm in the winter. In fact, it's freezing! Between the frigid temperatures and treacherous storms, it's safe to say that the Scots deal with a harsh winter.
Còsagach also brings to mind images of snuggling under blankets with a good book, close family members and a warm fire; however, it has other dimensions as well.
It means comfort, but you can find that comfort in more areas than your home. You can find it outside, in a pub, at a cafe, or anywhere in the world. You can find that coveted còsagach comfort anywhere.
--------------
Imagine if Americans adopted the cozy lifestyle of our northern European friends? Rather than clenching our fists when we walk outside, we may be snuggled up with our cat by the fireplace, gazing at our partner in a candle-lit restaurant, or sipping on hot chocolate with our mother and grandmother.
Many of us do these things already, but some of us have spring in the back of our minds the whole time (me!) Let's try to keep the spirit of the Nordic countries in mind this winter season. I bet we would be a bit happier. Rather than wait for spring to roll around, let's try to enjoy each moment.
We can all find comfort and warmth in one another, can't we? Stay warm (and cozy) out there!

Hi, Annie here. Today, I'm going to talk about an ailment that I'm sure most of you have experienced at one point or another- altitude sickness.
Whether it's hiking a mountain, flying in a plane, skiing the slopes, or traveling to a high-altitude city, altitude sickness can affect you. Let's discuss what it is and how to overcome it, so you can enjoy your next skiing adventure.
Don't let high altitudes ruin your trip!
Here are some quick facts about altitude sickness:
Symptoms include:
Slowly allowing your body to acclimate to the new elevation is the best way to prevent altitude sickness. For example, if you're climbing, climb slowly. If you're traveling to a high-altitude city, consider driving to your destination.
This way you're allowing your body to slowly get used to heightened elevation, rather than rapidly entering a spiked elevation.
Still, sometimes slow accumulation is not possible, like when you're flying or skiing. Make sure to drink plenty of water, avoid alcohol, avoid smoking, avoid strenuous exercise, and take it easy.
There are certain prescription or over-the-counter medication that may suit your needs. Speak with your doctor or a pharmacist about preventative treatments.
Because it can take a few days for your body to acclimate to the high altitude, your symptoms can last for awhile. Let's talk about ways to manage the pain. First of all, you need to make sure you don't go any higher.
Let yourself rest for a full day. It may be tempting to have fun with your friends, but avoid this temptation. Your body will thank you for letting it relax. Still, it's important not to sleep, especially if there's no one there to check on you. Overworking your body during intense exercise will make you feel much worse.
Continue to hydrate by drinking water and electrolytes. If you don't feel better soon, you need to get down to a lower elevation. Remember, walk slowly. Rushing can lead to even more dizziness, fatigue, and pain. If your symptoms persist you may need to go to a hospital.
The most important treatment tip is to descend.
--------------
I hope you're able to make the most of your next high-altitude adventure! The more you know about altitude sickness, the better, as it can affect anyone at any time.
I hate to be a downer or a party-pooper, but it's always good to stay informed, particularly if you're an avid skier. After all, knowledge is power!
Try as best you can to prevent altitude sickness from occurring by slowly ascending, taking medication, and staying hydrated. If you do experience any of the above symptoms it's important to descend and seek treatment if necessary.
The next time you're in high altitudes, I wish you an enjoyable and safe adventure!

Hi, Annie here. Today, let's open up a dialogue about a few common winter health problems and talk about how to solve them.
Don't suffer in silence- let's talk about it. I'm sure you're not the only one who is experiencing these issues. While winter can bring an overwhelming amount of joy - skiing, sledding, snow days- it can bring just as many troubles.
Let's fight the stigma and talk about some winter-associated challenges to see if we can find a solution.
With freezing temperatures, comes a rise in asthmatic symptoms, including:
The dry air can irritate your air pathways, causing muscle spasms and breathing difficulty. If your asthma flares up in the winter, you've got to take preventative measures.
When you need to get outdoors, wear a scarf to cover your mouth. This way, the air will be warmer, making it a bit easier to breathe. Consider getting a dehumidifier in the home to remove all of the dust-mites from the air.
Don't forget to get your flu shot and wash your hands! Obviously, your inhaler will be the most effective. Speak with your doctor if you're in need of additional relief.
Between the chilly air and all of the other elements, it can be tough to exercise. I try to motivate myself to move around a little bit, but as soon as I open the door, I'm hit by a gust of wind that sends me crawling right back to my bed. Often times, the issue is improper winter attire. No one wants to trudge around in freezing temperatures- it's just not enjoyable!
Eating chips while watching Netflix sounds way more fun! You know what doesn't feel fun, though? Packing on the pounds. Your body's toxic load is increasing when you laze around all day and eat processed foods. As the level of inflammation increases in your body, so will the number on the scale.
Your body wants to move around. Maybe the solution is to find a way to stay warm while you exercise outside in the cold. Whether you like to bulk up in a bundle of layers or you prefer lightweight fitted clothing, heated apparel may be the answer you're looking for!
Combat wait gain by staying warm when you exercise outdoors.
With the changing season comes an earlier sunset. The lack of sunlight can cause some people to develop Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD.) The way that many people cope with the blues is to go outside and spend time with friends. However, winter issues, such heavy snow, can make social connection less accessible.
Instead of expressing their feelings to friends or getting their heart rate up on a jog, many people withdraw and isolate. Some people are afraid to talk about their depression due to the fear of other people shaming them. I'm here to tell you that you're not alone and that it's not your fault.
The good news is that it's treatable. Purchasing a SAD light can help lift your spirits and get you out of your funk. I have tried light therapy myself, as I have experienced SAD during the frigid winter season in Ohio and Michigan. After a few weeks of sitting in front of the SAD light box (the happy light!) I felt more and more like myself again.
I promise you that the sun will come out again...
Let's be honest, dry skin is a total bummer! I went to Tahoe for Thanksgiving and decided to go snowshoeing (which was a blast!) I come back and my hands and lips were red, cracked, and bleeding. Ouch!
There are ways to prevent excessive dry skin. First, you need to make sure that your skin is completely covered. If you can see even an inch of skin poking through, you're in trouble. That nipping wind will ruin your experience. During the entirety of the trip, drink lots of water. Make sure to drink water before and after as well to ensure that toxins are getting flushed and your skin is receiving proper hydration.
Lastly, apply moisturizers. Whether you're into thick creams, gels, lotions, or oils, there is something out there that will help you. Even though it's winter, you still need to apply sunscreen. The sun can reflect off of the snow, giving you a nasty and painful burn.
Next time you're on a skiing adventure, take measures to protect your skin.
--------------
The above winter problems are common, but let's not underplay their severity. Do your best to prevent yourself from having a full blown asthma attack out in the frigid air and protect your skin from getting chapped.
If you've ever experienced SAD, light therapy can really benefit you. When it comes to a lack of motivation to exercise, maybe you need some high-tech winter gear. These problems are not fun, but I can assure you that you are not alone in your experience.
When it comes to your heath and well-being, it's time to take matters into your own hands. I hope you're able to solve your problems and find some joy this season.

One year, I decided to transform my life for the better. I realized that there were so many snow-bunnies skiing down the slopes and having a blast out there, while I was unbearably cold and miserable whenever I stepped outside.
I decided to go on a mission to flourish amidst the cold. If you live in a cold place but are struggling to find happiness, this blog post is for you. On the other hand, if you’re someone who already loves the snow, share this with a friend in need!
Scroll down to read about my tips to fall in love with winter.
Like many of us, you live in an area where it gets cold in the winter. It’s time to accept it and find a way to love it. You can either view it as a winter wonderland or a frigid dystopia; the choice is yours.
Appreciate the beauty of Mother Nature. You may find that you’re in total awe as you catch the sunlight reflecting off of the shimmering icicle or the ruby feathers of a nearby cardinal contrasting with the surrounding white. The next time you closely gaze at a snowflake, you may find it difficult not to smile at its intricate uniqueness. Having the right attitude is paramount in the winter.
Practicing gratitude and appreciation may be the most beneficial tools for you this year.
Having improper winter attire is a recipe for misery and disaster! If you feel a chill down your spine with every step you take you probably won’t be able to have much fun. Invest in your well-being by purchasing proper winter clothing.
It’s easy to see why one might have a grimace on their face if snow is sloshing between their numbed toes as they re-strap their snowshoes and go up the icy hill. Let’s make a deal to stay warm and dry out there this time! It’s safer and more enjoyable when you’re not freezing outdoors during the winter months.
Hats, gloves, coats, and boots are absolutely necessary. Heated apparel will make our lives much more pleasant! Next time your friends want to go on a skiing trip, you’ll be warm and content as you glide down the hill.
Instead of counting down the days until spring, let’s get out there and enjoy the snow! Fresh powder can bring so much joy. Think back to your childhood days of sledding, or taking ski trips with your family. Remember twirling around on an ice rink?
You have the free will to get out there and make the most of the snow! Rather than curling up in a blanket burrito in your home, put on some snow gear and get outdoors to play. Plus, movement has been shown to keep depression at bay and increase levels of happiness.
You’re getting your heart rate up, releasing endorphins, and enjoying the great outdoors.
It’s unsafe to spend all day out in the frosty winter weather. Once you come back inside, you need to have a game plan for how to stay positive inside your home. Being cooped up in a dark, isolating place can cause many to fall into a pit of despair.
Let’s talk about a few ways to reduce that possibility. First of all, make sure it’s warm enough. If you’re shivering in your own home, it’s too cold! Turn up the heat and gather some blankets to bring feelings of warmth and comfort.
Now it’s time to find indoor activities that bring you joy. You could:
There are so many ways to have fun indoors. Engage in whatever activity puts a smile on your face! Make sure you have some fun and enjoy your one life.
--------------
Staying warm and happy during the cold winter months is easier for some than for others. Even if you’re a winter activist adrenaline junkie, you probably know someone who suffers due to cold weather.
I’m sure you can relate to feeling a little bit blue during the particularly freezing days of winter. When the temperature drops you have to take action to make sure your mood doesn’t fall down with it.
Getting outdoors, appreciating the beauty, finding joy inside, and having the right clothing can really make a difference. I wish you a cozy and joyful season!

Throughout history, winter coats have always had a dual purpose- warmth and style. Back in the day, high-tech apparel and chic fashion styles were not as ubiquitous as they are today.
Though winter coats have evolved over time, one thing has never changed: winter rolls around every year! What about the skiers of our earlier days? If you want to enjoy yourself outside, you better find a snug coat.
Scroll down below to hear about the evolution of winter fashion and ski wear.
Skiing grew in popularity, spreading from Europe to the U.S. In the mid1850s, skiing was exclusively for wealthy Europeans who had a hankering for outdoor adventure.
But all of that changed with the turn of the century. More and more people wanted to ski. Even women wanted in on the fun! They wore fur scarves, flowery hats, and elegant gloves.
French fashion was big in the U.S, especially during World War 1, as we wanted to support our ally. Yet, the war caused limited accessibility, so the French fur trend became more limited.
Wool dominated fashion. Mimicking the military, dark colors were the most popular- such as black and navy. Wool is not exactly the best fabric to wear in the winter, particularly while skiing. It absorbed moisture, leaving the wearer drenched and weighed down by their heavy wool coat.
In the 1920s, we recognized a need for a change. Zippers came along, allowing for more mobility on the slopes. With the first Winter Olympics came a realization that perhaps functionality outweighs extravagant winter costumes.
Another reason why wool was not worn as much in the 30s was due to the Great Depression. Wool was a precious, expensive commodity and people could not afford it after the economy crashed. The down jacket was invented in the 30s, still seen today.
A lot was happening on the slopes- rope pulls and ski lifts were invented. Skiers wanted to be able to easily glide down the hill. With aerodynamics in mind, more skiers began wearing tight clothing. Manufacturers began making waterproof attire.
Synthetic material began to take shape in the 1940s, as Klaus F. Obermeyer entered the picture. He’s known for inventing ski parkas, turtlenecks, nylon wind-shirts, and soft-shell jackets.
The popularity of skiing as a sport soared! People were able to travel more easily and access the slopes. By this time, all of the skiers are wearing nylon.
No one wanted to wear the cumbersome wool jacket down the hill. How can you get any speed with that honking coat dragging you down? It was all about light, form-fitting synthetic materials. Polyester was first invented and being purchased all of the time in this decade.
Hollywood influenced fashion, even on the slopes. Audrey Hepburn was a popular fashion icon; snow began to be equated with glamour. Articles were broadcasting that women would glow with beauty when they skied.
Sports Illustrated was trying equally hard to have the public idealize functionality rather than glamour. They were creating straps on the ski suits that took pressure off of the knee and allowed for warmth, comfort, and functionality.
Looking stylish down the slopes in a functional jumpsuit was happening on the regular. Chic parkas, streamline pantsuits and bodysuits were all the rage.
What’s happening in the psychedelic 70s? Think flower power and rainbow! Innovators went all out in their ski suit creations, letting their imaginations run wild. There was fur, there were capes, and there were…moon boots!
Also, the fleece mid-layer was worn down the slopes, which is a necessary piece of apparel that we wear today. With the rise of the 80s came the rise onesies, puffer jackets, and overalls for men and women.
The 90s ski-slopes mimicked the streets- think busy, neon onesies. No more leg warmers, but you can see the resemblance from the 80s.
Skiers have learned a lot through the years about what to wear and not to wear when it comes to going fast and staying warm. The snowboarding industry is becoming popular and there’s a ton of fashion evolution happening in that department.
In addition, heated apparel and other technological advancements are paving the way to a different type of skiing experience.
--------------
Thanks for reading this blog post about 20th century ski-fashion! It’s pretty interesting to think about the first skier, strapping a pair of sticks on his feet and gliding along.
There have been plush fur garments, wool coats, and neon onesies. The marriage of the fashion industry and the skiing world has transformed through the century. Still, functionality and style play large roles in our society- even on the slopes.
With our high-tech world, it will be exciting to see the evolution of fashion trends in the upcoming decades.

]]>Hi, Annie here. Are you living in a freezing area right now? In some parts of the world, the January and February months are the coldest!
Blizzards, hail, sleet, and the whole shebang is ever-present. You’re no stranger to cold weather, but it’s still tough to experience a major storm in the dead of winter. If you need a few tips on how to stay warm during a storm, look no further. This blog is about ways to stay warm during a snowstorm.
You’re indoors, your heat is cranked up, but you’re still cold! Now what? I’m going to offer a few tips.
I know you’re active- really active- in fact, you’re dying to go out and snowboard or ski right about now! Or at the very least, how about a jog for crying out loud?
Hold off until the storm has run its course. It’s dangerous to go out during storms. I know you have things to do, such as going to work, grocery shopping, etc.
Still, you could get into a car accident, slip and fall on ice, or get hypothermia from the freezing temperatures. Read your favorite book by the fireplace!
Staying indoors will keep you safe and warm.
Hey, you don’t need to be outdoors to enjoy the perks of your heated items. That pair of heated socks could come in handy right about now. Am I right?
Get cozy beneath your heated blanket, sip on some hot chocolate or soup, and throw on your heated socks, base layer, or jacket. A heated puffy sweatshirt doesn’t sound half bad right?
You don’t need an excuse to wear your apparel. You bought it to keep yourself warm, right? Any time you feel cold, go for it! A snowstorm is as good as any to pull out the heated items.
Uh oh, the worst has happened- the power went out! Make sure you insulate your home so you don’t freeze to death.
Stuff some towels or clothing beneath your main doors to keep the cold out. Get some plastic wrap and tape to cover your windows. You want the heat to stay inside the house and the chilling air to stay out!
Now, go into your smallest and coziest room so you don’t have to insulate each room. It’s time to bundle up!
You can’t go wrong with a classic space heater! Not all of us are fire-place savvy. If you don’t have a fireplace, a space heater will do just the trick.
Make sure you don’t leave it on for too long, as your heating bill will be astronomically high. Still, if you’re in a snowstorm and you’ll freeze without it, do what you have to do! There are many different kinds, some of which don’t need to be plugged in.
Get a portable, no-plug heater in case of a power outage or some other emergency.
--------------
Snowstorms are no joke! They can do some serious damage. Make sure to protect yourself and stay safe. The first thing you have to accept is that it’s absolutely necessary to stay indoors!
Once you’ve gotten that down, layer up with heated clothing and blankets and grab your space heater. If you have the luxury of electricity, you can feel thankful. If not, make sure you insulate your home.
If you know a storm is coming in, stock up on groceries and run your errands beforehand. Charge your heated apparel so you can make the most of each article of clothing. Sometimes storms strike without warning.
Either way, I hope the content from my blog was helpful! Stay warm.

Your heated apparel isn’t exclusively for skiing, snowboarding, or extreme winter sports! Break out the gear for any occasion. In today’s blog, I’m going to list a few occasions to wear your heated clothing that you may not have thought of before.
At the very least, you could use this information as a winter activity bucket list! Rather than put on your unwieldy snow pants every time you go outside, your heated pants, jackets and gloves will do the truck!
Whenever you’re feeling cold, whip out the heated apparel.
Your child is desperate to build a snowman! Let’s be honest, you’re dying to help out. It’s been too long! It’ll take you right back to those joyful memories of childhood, when your family built a snowman together.
The snow is powdery and fresh; you can tell that this snow will pack together perfectly for a snowman. Grab your partner and your children and head outdoors.
To stay warm, use your heated apparel. It’s much less restrictive than multiple layers. Don’t forget to grab a carrot for the nose!
Whether you’re a seasoned ice-fisher or a newbie, ice fishing is an activity for anyone! If you love fishing in the summer, why not try it in the winter?
What’s holding you back? Let me guess….the freezing cold! Don’t let weather get in the way of your plans. Wearing a heated vest, hat, gloves, and socks will allow you to withstand the freezing temperature for much longer.
Maybe you’ll be able to catch dinner tonight! Good luck!
It just snowed and you have a big hill in mind that is perfect for sledding. Plus, it’s a snow day! Your kids are begging you to take them sledding. Nothing screams snow day like sledding down a huge hill.
You can still have fun sledding if you don’t have kids. Still, this winter activity will take you back to those coveted snow days of your childhood. Or, hit the slopes with your tube!
Wear your heated gear beneath your coat and snow pants to stay warm. Walking up the hill with the sled when you’re miserable and chilled to the bone is never any fun!
Don’t forget about ice skating! Even though you’re gliding across the ice at a fast pace, you’re feeling a bit chilly. The wind is nipping at your hands and you feel as though your toes are numb underneath those skates.
Keeping your hands, feet, and head warm is crucial during these types of winter activities. You won’t be able to last very long or skate to your fullest potential when you’re turning into an ice cube. Try out our heated socks, gloves, and hat the next time you’re on the ice!
If you’re looking to play some outdoor football with friends or your family, stay warm out there! There’s alway someone in the crowd that likes to tackle people to the ground.
Well, today, that ground is covered in snow. Whether you’re competitive or not, you want to be able to perform at your best. Heated apparel could give you that edge you need.
You’ll be able to outrun your competition!
--------------
These winter activities will certainly put you in a great mood. I don’t know about you, but for me, nothing in this world is quite so bad as freezing out in the cold!
It’s one of your favorite winter pastimes, yet you can’t seem to warm up or have any fun. Next time you engage in one of these activities, don’t forget to wear your heated clothing.
You’ll have fun all day long. Crank up the heat!

If you love winter sports or spend a lot of time in the cold, consider investing in heated apparel. Besides the obvious, there are a few surprising health benefits of heat therapy and heated clothing.
When we think of warmth, positive images come to mind, right? A cozy cup of hot chocolate, curling up on the couch next to a fireplace, a steamy shower.
Well, you don’t have those luxuries when you’re on the slopes or shoveling snow, and prolonged cold exposure can be damaging.
Check out these unsuspecting health benefits of regularly wearing FNDN Heated Apparel.
When you apply heat to your body, you’re increasing the flow of oxygen to your muscles.
This will relieve pain and stiffness, which will allow you to withstand the cold for a much longer time.
Your performance will increase and you won’t feel as freezing.
Being cold makes your body contract. You won’t have the full range of motion that you’re used to when you’re extremely cold.
You’ll be able to perform to your maximum capacity when your body isn’t cowering and shivering from the freezing temperatures.
Having a limited range of motion will be a huge obstacle to face.
Staying outside in dangerously cold conditions can cause injury. Not only that, it can endanger your life. People die in the cold all too often. Heated clothing can help you stay warm, which could save your life.
When we are cold, our muscles tighten up. You’re more likely to fall or strain something when you spend a lot of time outside in cold weather conditions.
When you’re cold, you might not be in the best mood.
No one wants to be irritated or angry when they’re trying to have fun skiing, snowshoeing, snowboarding, or sledding with the kids. Heated apparel can give you some relief.
In addition, your body can use its energy on the task at hand, rather than burning it all up on staying warm.
--------
If you were on the fence about heated apparel before, maybe you’ll consider purchasing some items. You won’t regret it!
If you’re someone who lives in a cold place and spends a lot of time outdoors, it’s definitely worth the investment. It’s better to be safe and content than miserable and injured.
Plus, you’ll perform much better when your body is getting the heat it needs. Stay warm out there!

Having cold toes is probably the most annoying winter problem to have.
I remember being stuck shoveling driveways or roofs for hours, wondering if this morning was the last time I would ever see my toes attached to my feet.
Thankfully, there are ways to keep your feet warm without having to wear 3 pairs of wool socks that make your feet sweat when its 10*F.
This might go without saying, but if you're someone who wears dirty socks more than once, you're not only probably smelly, but you're also making your feet colder than they should be.
Wearing socks all day, then wearing them again the next day dampens your socks from sweat.
When your socks are damp in cold temperatures, the frigid air will stay inside of the locked moisture of the sock, resulting in unnecessarily cold toes.
But seriously, stop wearing the same socks for days in a row. Nobody likes the smelly guy at the gym.
(Pictured: FNDN Women's Heated Parka with Built-In Heated Gloves)
Blood circulation begins in the core of the body and works its way out. If your Core Body Temperature is low, the blood in your core is cold. This will then spread to all of your extremities, including your toes.
Thankfully, the opposite is true; raising your Core Body Temperature results in warm blood circulating throughout the body, which in turn will keep your toes warm.
If you're feeling cold at home, throw on your favorite blanket. When you're out and about and your heavy winter jacket just isn't cutting it, try our FNDN Reversible Puffy Sweatshirt for men, or our FNDN Women's Heated Parka with Built-In Heated Gloves.
(Featured: FNDN Heated Hat)
This might sound a bit farfetched, but it's the second-best way to heat up your toes.
Humans lose a lot of heat from their head, believe it or not. Even the U.S. Army Field Manual claims that 40-50% of body heat is lost through the head.
So if you're walking around the house, throw on your favorite beanie. If you have to deal with trudging through frigid temperatures, try our FNDN Heated Cable Knit Beanie.
(Featured: FNDN Heated 3.7V Sports Socks)
Obviously, the best way to keep your toes warm in the cold is to keep your feet warm.
But we all know how uncomfortable it is to wear multiple layers of old, wool socks. It itches, they stink, and your feet somehow manage to start sweating.
Our founder, Travis, found the solution for all kinds of cold feet problems. (Not if you're rethinking about getting married though... sorry, but you're on your own with that one.)
If you just want to be comfortable at home, try our FNDN Heated 3.7V Slipper Socks.
If you're looking for warm, toasty feet on the go, try one of the following:

It's kind of simple really to prevent your toes from getting cold. Try to focus on keeping your head & core warm and get yourself a pair of Heated Footwear.
We also offer Spare Batteries & a Power Bank in case your FNDN Heated Apparel dies on you.

With winter comes the inevitable snow shoveling, and with snow shoveling comes back pain, wasted time, and a feeling of dread knowing you're probably going to have to do it again later in the week.
I can't promise to give you life hacks to make you enjoy shoveling snow, but I can promise that implementing these tips & tricks will make it just a little bit more bearable.
Shoveling snow is already a pain as it is, but it's difficulty increases tenfold when the snow hardens and sticks. I know I hate it when I go to chuck a hunk of snow off of my shovel only to have it stick, and therefore throw out my back.
A simple solution to this is to spray your snow shovels with cooking spray. Not only will it prevent the snow from sticking, but it will also help you move through the snow faster.
Just remember to wipe the oil off of the shovel before you put it back in the garage to prevent oil from collecting on the floor and creating a slip hazard.
(No, not quite like that, but close)
We all know that ice melting salt works, but it isn't cheap and goes fast. Plus it's a pain to lug around those heavy bags.
An affordable alternative to ice melting salt is a simple science experiment.
Combine 1 teaspoon of dish soap, 1 tablespoon of rubbing alcohol, and 1/2 gallon of water in a bucket. Pour the mixture wherever there are stubborn patches of ice and watch it melt away without having to melt a hole in your wallet.
If you're one capable of planning ahead (unlike myself), then lay down a plastic ground tarp over areas that require snow removal before the storm.
Place ground spikes on the two corners of the tarp where you want the snow to be pushed off onto.
Once the snow stops, grab one corner of the tarp and have someone else grab the other corner, and flip the snow off of the tarp onto the side of the area that requires clearing. Voila! You just saved yourself a whole lot of time & a back ache.
It's amazing that no matter how hard I shoveled snow, my toes would always get frozen. I'm pretty much a human furnace with how much body heat I generate, but I can never manage to send that heat to my toes.
It would make shoveling snow that much more of an annoyance.
Although my FNDN Heated 3.7V Sports Socks don't make shoveling snow easier, they do help make it much more bearable.

We're smack dab in the middle of winter, and it's showing no signs of letting up! Although I'm a huge fan of the cold, I respect it's limits, and so should everyone else.
For those of you brave enough to endure these frigid temperatures, it's important to take care of yourself while you're out there.
Or if you have a loved one who has a career working outdoors, you might want to share these tips with them.
Look, I get it. I used to be a tough guy roofer shoveling snow off of roofs who "Wouldn't need a babysitter", but even the old construction veterans I would work with never worked alone.
Signs of cold exhaustion and fatigue usually aren't recognized by the individual suffering from them, but rather someone else observing the symptoms as they happen.
Not to mention if you accidentally injured yourself; being alone and injured is already a nightmare scenario. Now imagine being alone, injured, and freezing. Yeah, no thanks.
This dovetails nicely with my previous point; what's the point of a buddy system if you don't recognize the signs & symptoms of hypothermia?
There's two stages of Hypothermia:
If you or your buddy start experiencing these signs, seek help straight away. Don't jump straight into a hot tub or blanket though; you'll just put yourself through after-drop, which is basically 30-60 minutes of uncontrollable & painful shivering.
Instead, slowly warm up by going indoors and removing your cold and wet clothing, drying yourself off, and putting on some clean warm clothes.
One of the reasons why we start shivering as we get cold is to maintain our core body temperature. Shivering engages many internal heating factors, including activating your brown fat. When this is activated, white fat & ATP is burned, which in turn saps your energy levels quickly.
You can avoid or lower your levels of shivering by drinking warm beverages or eating warm food throughout the day.
Maintaining core body temperature burns a lot of nutirients, so be sure that those snacks you keep in your back pocket are loaded with calories.
This may be the most obvious, but it is by far the most effective.
Wearing heated apparel tricks your body into thinking that it's in homeostasis by keeping out the cold temperatures while warming your skin. As a result, shivering doesn't occur, energy levels last longer, and you're more comfortable throughout your grueling work day.
Some of our best items for working in the cold include:

Hopefully there's a few tidbits of information in there that helps you better understand the physiology of why you need to stay warm while working outside.

Hey, Dan here. I've been visiting some blog posts from last year to see if I can pull some more information on our most popular articles to help make your life easier.
Our second most popular from 2018 was How to Save Money on Heating This Winter, so I've decided to jump in and revamp to help you save money this winter again!
These tips are simple & easy, so be sure to put aside some time this weekend to save yourself some extra cash during these frigid months.
We all know that heat rises, which is really aggravating. You're basically paying money to heat the outdoors.
An easy way to combat this and get the most out of money spent on heating costs is to use fans to circulate air.
All you have to do is set your fan on low to circulate air upward toward the ceiling. This forces the warmer air that's risen to get trapped at the ceiling back down towards the floor, re-capturing heat that's doing nothing except slowly peel your ceiling paint.
This is commonly overlooked, but can make a huge difference in maintaining heat. There are two main things to keep in mind here:
On average, around 10-25% of heat loss is due to windows. That's a lot of money spent melting snow.
There are 3 easy tips you can implement today to try and save some of that lost heat:
Of course any doors leading outside should be kept shut, this is common knowledge. A little known fact is that keeping interior doors shut also can help with your heating bill.
If the room isn't used, why heat it? Close the vent & shut the door when no one is in there.
Shutting the door can also increase the room's temperature by trapping heat produced by your body, lights, and other electronics.
----------
Making small changes like this can put a surprising dent in your heating bill.
Save money, reduce waste, stress less... everybody wins!

We all have a hard-working loved one that risks their fingers & ears every winter season to provide for their family.
And we also know all to well how difficult it can be shopping for them. Trust me , my father has been in construction for 30+ years.
Luckily for both of us, FNDN has a solid product line for the people in our lives who deserve a gift that will make their daily lives easier.
If you're interested in any of these items as gifts, we're offering FREE expedited shipping all week!
Order before Thursday, 12/19 to guarantee Christmas delivery.
Working outside in the cold for 9 years, I understand how quickly workers burn through gloves, and how ineffective they are at keeping fingers warm.
Travis designed this glove specifically for outdoor workers in mind, crafting these gloves from 100% Premium durable cowhide full-leather construction – to handle real work.
The gloves are powered by Radiant X-Core Heat™ technology and are designed to allow maximum dexterity. There's nothing more annoying when working outside than gloves that don't allow you to pick things up.
I remember when I was on top of roofs shoveling off snow and a massive gust of wind would cut right through my work pants and chill me to the bone. You know you're in trouble when your quads get cold.
To combat that weird cold sweat feeling, the pants are made from a moisture-wicking, lightweight, breathable, stratch techincal fabric that are designed to be worn under work pants.
We also understand that temperatures change, so we designed the pant's temperature to be adjustable with soft-touch control buttons. To provide maximum customization & comfort, they're also designed to attach to...
Yep! These two items are designed to plug into each other so you can control the heat for both items from the same belt control buttons.
I'll tell ya, there's nothing more annoying than working on my feet for 8+ hours a day only to have freezing toes within an hour of getting on the job. In case you don't know, they only heated back up after taking off my boots when I got home.
These particular socks are designed to be worn under other socks to allow for more bundling to retain body heat and also to provide relief from the usual itchy woolen socks worn by most construction/outdoor workers.
I always found that no matter how much body heat I generated from working outside, my ears almost always stayed cold. Top that off with cold fingers and toes, I was pretty miserable.
This new Heated Hat is a godsend for outdoor workers not only for our ears, but to also maintain general body temperature. Most of our body heat is released through our head, so this product alone will help any outdoor worker stay warm and comfortable.
To provide maximum comfort, this hat comes with 3 heat levels and come with a lightweight rechargeable bego battery.
I chose this particular item out of all of the base layer tops due to the location of the heating component. When working outside, temperature is always changing. As a result, a lot of outdoor workers roll up or down their sleeves as the day goes on.
This top heated base layer only heats the core, which allows your loved hard worker to roll up their sleeves as they please. Plus, long sleeve tops will get destroyed pretty quickly when working outdoors.
It's also designed to be lightweight and comes with adjustable shoulder straps & waistband to be able to fit under any work garment.
----------
As a past construction worker, the gifts I loved the most were thoughtful ones that made my life easier.
Treat your hard-working loved ones to something they'll actually appreciate this holiday season. Plus, they'll think of you every time they use it ;)

Hey! It's Dan with FNDN. Getting ready for tearin' up the slopes this weekend?
I love to shred, but can't stand it when I get freezing after a few runs. When you couple the snow bunching up in every open crevice with the high gusts of winds, I get irritated pretty fast.
I've tested out a good amount of FNDN products over a few winters, and these are the top heated items that make the cold more bearable which therefore helps me last longer on the mountain.
When it's really windy, you know how the cold gusts can pierce right through even some of the toughest winter jackets.
I gotta say, no matter how gnarly those winds can get, this new item is improved from last year's model and keeps me warm through even the toughest temperatures.
To top it off, this base-layer is made from moisture-wicking, lightweight, breathable, and stretchable technical fabric. So when I bust a sweat, I don't get that weird uncomfortable cold sweat sensation.
Can you tell that I really don't like cold gusts of wind?
This pair in particular is built to resist high gusts of wind using a wind-blocking thin shell material that allows for dexterity and also works with touchscreen devices. (I gotta get my selfies in.)
I've found these gloves to be the best when I'm up on the mountain. Having cold hands to the point of not being able to move my fingers is nothing short of torture.
To top it off, the new slim-line battery packs allow for 3-level power settings that can extend the battery life to over 3.5 hours, a life saver when I really don't want to get off the mountain.
Having freezing ears is one of my biggest pet peeves, and I thought for the longest time that I was just going to always have to deal with it.
I gave the heated beanie a shot, and there's no doubt that it keeps my ears from turning pink and freezing off.
Just like the gloves, this piece of heated headwear comes with 3 adjustable levels of heat, and can operate on up to 6 hours on a full charge, depending on environmental conditions.
Plus it looks really good on me.
The bane of my existence (besides people singing Don't Stop Believing at karaoke) is cold toes. I can't stand it when I'm tearing down the slope and can't direct my board properly because I can't feel or move my feet.
Travis definitely designed this product with snowboarders or people who work outside in mind, and it shows. For the first time in history, my feet don't turn into ice blocks when I'm outside for more than 10 minutes.
These socks have a continuous 4.5 hour run time, but last a bit longer due to heat being trapped in my boots. Easy to charge and wash, these are a must-have when I pack for a day in the cold.
To say I'm forgetful is an understatement, and as a result I usually forget to charge my FNDN apparel. The new FNDN Universal Heating Layer is a massive solution for people like me.
Although I do prefer my Heated Base Layer as mentioned above, this is a great backup for when I forget to charge it's batteries, or when it dies and I want to get back out there before the batteries are fully charged again.
It's a cheap & easy back-up to all of our other heated top layer products, and quickly became a necessity for my cold endeavors.

Hey! Dan here with the second installment of one of our most popular blog posts of last year.
Although FNDN products do help a lot during the winter seasons, they only help so much. There are other aspects of your winter life that require attention to make the cold temperatures more bearable, and one of the most important is your vehicle.
To help you out past keeping your body warm, check out our new & improved list of how you can prepare your car for winter.
We all know that regular oil changes are the most important part of maintaining your car's integrity, but not many know that you should change the type of oil you put in your car during freezing temperatures.
Oil tends to thicken as it gets colder, and if you're using thick oil to begin with, it could lead to long-term damage to your vehicle's engine.
Be sure to check the owner's manual of your vehicle and look at their recommendations for which oil to use in different climates & temperatures.
Before it gets too freezing, check the status of your vehicle battery's posts & connections. Make sure there's no corrosion and handle it if there is some.
If your battery is older than three years, bring it to a repair shop to ensure that it's holding the necessary charge.
If you don't, you could end up with asking a stranger for a jump in the middle of a blizzard - if you're so lucky to have somebody around.
If you're anywhere near where I grew up in Central Connecticut, snow tires are almost a necessity. Slipping & sliding down the streets of Downtown New Haven is probably the most stressful environment I've been in, besides NYC on New Year's Eve.
The peace of mind of having improved traction when racing to work is worth every penny.
If you do decide to go shopping for snow tires, be sure to ask about any secret fees that might come into play. You can check easily by asking different auto shops about their "out the door charge".
Just having 4WD isn't enough if you abuse it every year; it's important to check the integrity of the system itself.
I remember when I had my first truck ('92 Dodge Dakota) a few centuries ago, I assumed the 4WD would work no problem in the first snow storm. Well, it was garbage, and I needed to call my father to have him chain my pathetic starter truck to his monster 8 foot bed Silverado to pull me out of a parking lot.
Anyways, it's an easy check; just make sure that 4WD engages & disengages easily, and that all drivers using your vehicle know how and when to activate it.

Did I miss anything big? Do you have a funny getting stuck in the snow rescue story, too?

Just as much as everyone dislikes the cold weather, we can all agree that it is something special to get nice & close to our significant other when its cold to warm each other up.
As comforting as this is, the usual ideas do get stale over time. To help you and your relationship out, here are some winter date ideas that you and your partner can enjoy together this winter as you both impatiently await summertime.
Look, I know I just said its nice to get cozy together, but its also pretty awesome to get uncomfortable together.
To top it off, the trails you usually hike look totally different after a solid snowfall; it's like exploring an entirely new terrain.
It's important to stay warm during these hikes, because the amount of time you spend going up is the same amount of time you'll spend going down. To keep yourself warm and prepared for hours of cold adventures, check out our FNDN Heated Gloves.
This is something that's fun to do year round, but makes more sense when it's cold outside. Why would you waste a warm summer day pretending to fall indoors?
It makes more sense to do this together in the wintertime when its freezing outside.
Plus, personally, it doesn't make much logical sense to jump out of a perfectly good airplane, so this experience is one of the few that I don't really mind simulating...
There's nothing quite as satisfying as getting super hot & sweaty, especially during the winter.
Removing yourself from the perpetual tundra outside to immerse yourself in the polar opposite is extremely liberating and relaxing.
If you want to go extreme Wim Hof style, go for a shirtless run in shorts dripping wet from sweat in the cold after the hot yoga class. You'll thank me later.

Memorial Day is a great opportunity to get together with loved ones and take a moment to appreciate those who have made the ultimate sacrifice to maintain our freedom. If you're lucky enough to be invited to a party, you should never go empty handed!
If you're super last second like myself, here are some quick and easy recipes to take with you that are also super healthy!
Bringing store-bought crap guac to a party is cheesy and unthoughtful. Take 10 minutes to spice up the usual guacamole recipe and be the dish that stands out!
This is probably the easiest, fastest, and cutest option on this list; 3 ingredients, almost no prep.
Just grab 1 ripe watermelon, 1 box of fresh blueberries, and bamboo skewers.
Cut the watermelon into star-shapes using a cookie cutter, and skewer them to create an adorable snack that is extremely patriotic!
Again, super easy to make and definitley a crowd pleaser. Although this one may not exactly be healthy, it will go fast & is certainly memorable and patriotic.
Just like our Fruit Sparklers, it only takes 3 ingredients: A box of oreos, a bag of white chocolate, and a box of red white & blue sprinkles.
Melt the chocolate in a pot over the oven, dip the oreos in the chocolate, drizzle the sprinkles on, and let them dry.
Insanely easy & patriotic!
----------
Thanks for stopping in, hopefully I saved some of you from losing hair! I know I'm always rushed and looking for an easy way out of social expectations.
Have a great Memorial Day!

This child is going through something extremely challenging. During this time of adjustment, offer them unconditional love and support.
If the child is ready to talk, let him or her speak openly about the trauma.
Reassure them that they are safe, loved, and they’re not “going crazy.”
There is nothing more jarring than disrupting a child’s schedule. If they have a usual routine, do not break it.
They are already dealing with enough change in the state of their mental health. Changing their external world will not be helpful.
If the child wants to take too much time off of class, talk with a mental health professional about whether or not that should be discouraged.
Getting exercise, eating nutritious meals, and getting quality sleep are the pillars of health and happiness.
Encourage workouts with the child. Maybe you two could get a gym membership.
Go grocery shopping to get lots of whole foods and healthy snacks and then make a home-cooked meal. Check out the child’s sleeping environment to see if it is dark, quiet and not too hot.
Exposure to media coverage can re-traumatize children.
Repeatedly watching a disturbing event on the television or the Internet can cause PTSD in children who were not even present at the event.
Try to limit the child’s viewing of explicit images and videos as much as possible.
Childhood is a time when children build a foundation of trust in their world.
When they feel as if their world is unsafe, it can cause identity and intimacy issues in the future.
After this trauma, the child probably feels like the world is a scary and unpredictable place.
Help your child rebuild trust and safety by keeping promises, admitting when you do not know the answer to something, explaining to the child that the trauma was not their fault, helping to manage stress, and creating routine.
Being around a community of people that have undergone similar traumatic experiences can help your child feel less alone.
They might feel a sense of camaraderie with other members of their support group. Individual therapy can help dramatically.
Do some research on what type of therapy is best suitable for your child and make an appointment. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy has been shown to be effective in treating children with PTSD.
----------
Helping this child is your number one priority. You want him or her to feel safe, loved, and happy.
Now that you understand how to help, you can be the best you can for the child. Make sure you’re seeking help for yourself.
Seeing a child that you love dearly experiencing so much pain and suffering is unimaginably difficult.
I hope this blog has provided helpful information so you can help your child with PTSD in the best way possible.

Bring your own grocery bags instead of using plastic ones. Plastic is killing our marine life and polluting our earth.
Once you get into the habit of bringing your own tote bags, it will become part of your routine.
Stick them in your car or put a note on your door to remind you to grab reusable bags. You can buy inexpensive ones at most grocery stores.
Purchase eco-friendly light bulbs. They use between 25% an 80% less energy than traditional light bulbs.
Switching to these energy-efficient bulbs will lower greenhouse emissions dramatically. Plus, they are less expensive and last longer.
There is no reason not to switch. Go get the CFL or LED bulbs.
So many people let the water run while brushing their teeth, showering, or doing dishes.
Instead, be more conscientious of water waste. Only turn the water on when you need it. Don’t run the dish washer or washing machine when it’s not necessary.
Start a compost bin! When you dump out your compost onto the ground, you’re fertilizing the earth.
You’re giving it back some nutrients and helping plants stay healthy. It can save you some money on trash removal and its good for the planet.
Instead of driving to class or work on your own, can you carpool with a friend or take methods of public transportation?
The pollution from cars is a disaster. They emit carbon dioxide and green house gases, which contributes to global warming. Call up your friends or look up the bus routes!
----------
There are so many simple choices one can make to help take care of our planet.
Being eco-friendly doesn’t have to be complicated.

I know, I know, this is a massive pain, and scary!
But so much sticks, leaves, and debris gather in your gutter over the many winter storms, it's imperative that you hop on the ladder, or hire a professional to.
Not cleaning your gutters can lead to fascia board rot, roof leaks, and even window leaks!
Everybody in your family staying inside most of the year leads to your filters working in overdrive.
Be sure to replace all filters including water, air vent, and range hood.
They should be replaced every 3-6 months anyways.
This is absolutely very important.
An old, clogged dryer vent can be a massive fire hazard.
If you don't know how or are unsure, definitely hire a professional.
It's now time for all the salt, dirt, and dust from the winter to go!
You may not notice how dirty your windows are now, but you will certainly notice a difference once they're cleaned.
This is definitely #1, along with CO detectors.
Take a few minutes to go around the house, test the batteries, and replace if needed.
This could be the difference between life and death for everyone under your roof.
----------
Owning a home certainly isn't easy, but it is definitely manageable if regularly kept up.
Take a Sunday to handle all of this plus any other odds and ends, and you'll thank yourself all spring.

There are podcasts about everything these days!
Politics, daily news debriefs, love, money, mindfulness, marketing, advice podcasts- or any topic under the sun.
There is certainly a podcast that will hold your attention. All you have to do is find it.
Instead of clicking through the radio ads, bring some CDs or plug in your phone or iPod.
Plan ahead a little bit and pick out some music that always puts a smile on your face. It will be worth it to have entertaining music that lifts your mood.
Maybe your friend is bored on his or her commute as well. Call up your friends or loved ones.
Make sure to plug in your phone, since driving with only one hand is dangerous and illegal in some states!
Even though you might be feeling bummed out, focus your attention on your body sensations and your breath.
It might take you out of your negative mental state. Focus on your foot on the accelerator, your hand on the wheel, and your breathing. You might feel calmer as well.
Go to your happy place during stressful times on the road. Imagine you’re on a beach or in a field under the stars or next to a waterfall.
Don’t close your eyes though! Finding peace in your mind during standstill traffic is an excellent way to escape the boredom of being stuck on the road.
---------
I hope your next drive to work is better than the last one!
Not many people enjoy their commute to work, but if it is worth it to you to continue to drive all that way, you might as well have a little fun and learn a thing or two.

I call this activity immediate push-ups because it is the first thing I do when I roll out of bed.
I literally unwrap myself from my burrito blankets, flop onto the floor, and do as many push-ups as I can.
This wakes me up, gets the blood flowing, and is great to burn some fat while building muscle.
This may seem like an obvious entry, but it is more important than you think.
It is crucial that you warm your body up before just jumping into any workout program, especially if you've been out of the gym for a while.
Yoga is an excellent bridge into exercise. It stretches and warms up the body as well as centers the mind, so you will be able to better listen to your body if it tells you "enough".
I personally always practice yoga before exercise for 90 minutes, but I am a bit extreme. 20 minutes is fine.
This is important; you can't get anywhere without knowing your destination, or how you'll get there.
Just showing up to the gym isn't enough; you have to have a set plan alongside a consistent & proper diet to see any serious, lasting results.
I recommend starting a manifestation journal, and making sure that you are writing down your physical fitness goals every day to keep you on track. It works for me!
This sounds kind of funny, but it works.
When you look good, you feel good, and you want other people to see how good you look.
Invest in some serious active wear that compliments your body type, and you will be more motivated to stay in the gym.
Swimming is one of the best exercises for your body.
It engages nearly every muscle group, builds strength while burns fat, and is also zero impact.
Not many people have a pool, so I recommend 2 things; local YMCA pool, or finding a local lake or pond to swim in. I know it's the end of winter and lakes are freezing, but I do it all the time. It feels amazing and really jump starts your metabolism, just be sure to have somebody with you whenever you go.

Getting that summer body you've always wanted is no easy task, and takes much more than just showing up.
But I believe in you as long as you believe in yourself!

Where I live, the driveway is flat, which is usually a good thing for driving in the snow.
But this year, we have had a lot of ice storms. As a result, my little Honda Civic spins its tires and can't move.
This was an easy fix; I just dumped some cat litter under my tires for some initial traction to get me going.
If you don't have cat litter, I've also used salt, but once I was really desperate and used the floor mats of my car, and it worked.
Of course, this is Darwin's theory at its finest. I would run in the snow and ice and fall on my face.
But I love running, and I especially love running in the cold.
My solution came from the boots I used to wear while roofing; I studded my sneakers!
I took small, 1/4" screws and drilled them into the soles of my shoes. Not too deep to where they would puncture my feet of course, but the extra studded grips really helped to prevent me from falling by giving me solid footing.
Yes, this sounds like a crazy cat lady thing to do, but it works!
I just throw old socks over my windshield wipers after lifting them off of my windshield. This prevents them from getting loaded up with snow and ice during the storm, making them last longer.
This may sound counter intuitive, but once you apply critical thought, it makes sense.
I leave the fan on all throughout the winter time. You may think it cools things down, but it does not.
Heat rises, so keeping the fan on counter-clockwise pushes the hot air that is trying to escape back down, saving you heat & money.
There is nothing more annoying than clearing your car's front & rear windshield, having your car warmed up and ready to go, only to see your side mirrors are iced up and useless. Great, now I'm going to be super late to work.
The solution to this is easy; just wrap large Ziploc bags around your side mirrors and put a rubber band on the end to hold it in place overnight during the snow storm.
This will keep the mirrors from fogging and icing up.

Although winter can be a pain, it is part of our lives.
It's best to live & deal with it than curse the stars everyday!
Thanks for stopping by, have a great weekend :)
